A delivery man has been sentenced to six months in prison after sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.
The attack happened as the pupil returned to her apartment to collect homework requested by her maths teacher.
As she got into a lift to go up to her flat, the man, 35, from Pakistan, followed her before touching her inappropriately.
When the girl returned to her class in tears, her teacher ran back to her flat with her and identified the defendant.
“She arrived at my apartment for her maths session but had forgotten some papers so I asked her to go to her family’s flat in the next building to pick them up,” said the private teacher.
“When she returned, she was shaken and terrified. I asked her why and she told me what had happened.”
Dubai Criminal Court heard how the incident happened on June 16 at Al Rafaa building in the city.
A security guard at the complex was able to check CCTV footage and confirm the attacker had got into the lift with his victim.
“He remained inside the lift with her all the way up to the seventh floor," he told the court.
"His delivery was to an apartment on the fifth floor."
The defendant denied sexually assaulting the girl in a hearing earlier this month.
He was ordered to be deported from the UAE after serving his sentence.
