Substitute teachers working in government schools will be offered financial incentives to cover for permanent staff who are absent.

The Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has issued a ministerial decision governing the system.

The decision states that substitute teachers should cover the absence of permanent teachers during the school year for any reason.

They are entitled to receive a financial reward for working during the school day or in a class.

Nursery school substitute teachers would receive Dh500 for each working day, and teaching activity-based subjects at Dh100 per class, with a maximum of 30 classes per week.

Teachers of Arabic language, Islamic education, history, geography, cycle one, economics, social studies, national education, health sciences and life skills would be given Dh120 per class, to a maximum of 30 classes per week.

Teachers of mathematics, the English language, physics, chemistry, biology, science, cycle two, special education, computer sciences, design, technology, business administration, creative design and innovation would receive Dh150 per class and a maximum of 30 classes per week.

The rewards are to be drawn from the budget of the Ministry of Education.

The decision stipulates that Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, will oversee the issuing of a database of reserve teachers.
