Coronavirus: UAE reports 305 Covid-19 cases as 40,000 tests are conducted

The UAE confirmed 305 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the country's total to 57,498.

Officials said a further 343 patients had recovered from the virus as the overall tally moved to 49,964.

The death toll in the Emirates stands at 341 after one patient died.

The latest infections were detected after a further 40,000 tests were conducted.

Close to 4.6 million tests have been carried out across the country as part of a mass screening strategy aimed at limiting the spread of the virus.

The number of coronavirus infections recorded across the globe is fast approaching 15 million since the outbreak began.

As of Tuesday, more than 613,000 people had died after contracting Covid-19, while the number of recoveries across the globe is nearing 9 million.

The United States, with more than 3.9 million confirmed cases, remains the country hardest hit by the pandemic, followed by Brazil, India, Russia and South Africa.
