As excitement builds for UAE astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri’s historic journey to space, some are channelling the anticipation into a discovery and appreciation for the arts right here on Earth.

A person dressed in an astronaut suit was seen walking and posing around some of the world’s finest works of art at Louvre Abu Dhabi on Sunday, September 22.

Below are some of the tweets that utilised the hashtag, #FindTheAstronaut, to showcase the “astronauts” journey through the museum via videos and photos.

In one tweet, Louvre Abu Dhabi director Manuel Rabate thanks the UAE Space Agency for the opportunity to share in the historic significance of the forthcoming space mission, seeming to confirm that a collaboration had taken place:

Major Al Mansouri will head into space on Wednesday, September 25. He spend eight days on the station before returning to Earth with the outgoing crew. He will be joined by Russian commander Oleg Skripochka and US astronaut Jessica Meir in this mission.

As part of his preparation for his trip, he spent nearly a year undergoing intense training. He also learnt Russian so that he will be able to communicate with ground control and fellow crew members.

In the two weeks before the mission, the prime and backup crews will be confined to a containment area and denied access to the outside world. This will be for their safety and that of the other astronauts in the International Space Station (ISS). The quarantine will ensure they are free of germs or infections that they could carry to the ISS.
