DUBAI // Two expatriates who had drunken sex in the back of a Dubai taxi were today sentenced to three months in prison and fined Dh3,000 each.

The Misdemeanours Court also ordered the British woman R?B, a 29-year-old recruitment executive, and Irish man C?M, a 27-year-old welder, to be deported following their prison terms.

The court passed the custodial sentence after finding them guilty of having consensual sex outside of marriage. The fine relates to the charge of consuming alcohol, which they both admitted.

The pair met at a hotel on May 4 where they had been drinking heavily and left in a taxi together at about 11pm.

They told the 29-year-old Pakistani driver Q?P, to drive to Al Barsha, but when they arrived became vague about their specific destination.

They then told the driver to go to the Marina area.

The taxi driver noticed the man swigging from a bottle of alcohol during the journey and soon afterwards saw the topless woman sitting on his lap.

While the pair were otherwise engaged the driver parked the taxi and motioned to a police officer to come over.

The police officer, 22, came to investigate and saw the woman, was not wearing any underwear, and the man with his trousers around his knees.
