Reporters from The National take to the roads of the UAE to document unsafe driving.

Major Gen Mohammed Al Zaffien, the director of the Dubai Police general traffic department, said the traffic police electronic system had already been updated for the changes.

But it was not disclosed what fines would be eligible for a discount.

The Dubai Executive Council approved Gen Tamim's recommendation last month.

According to ministerial decree issued last year by Lt Gen Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, traffic departments in all emirates are allowed to offer a discount of up to 50 per cent on traffic fines.

The Abu Dhabi traffic department has been giving 50 per cent discounts since June last year.
