SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium // The Polish driver Robert Kubica, tipped as a future Ferrari driver, backed the Italian's team's Felipe Massa today as his favourite for this year's Formula One title. "I said at the beginning of the year that if I have to put money [on someone], I would put it on Massa and I will stick to that," the BMW-Sauber driver told reporters at the Belgian Grand Prix circuit. "I think most of the people don't realise that he is really doing a very good job," added Kubica, 23, the only driver from a team other than Ferrari and McLaren-Mercedez to win a race so far this season.
The Brazilian Massa has won four of the season's 12 races so far, the same number as his McLaren rival Lewis Hamilton, and is six points off his championship-leading rival. The Sao Paulo driver, a loyal number two at Ferrari when now-retired seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher was dominant, is also seven points ahead of world champion teammate Kimi Raikkonen. "I think in the past [Massa] did quite a lot of mistakes, and also starting this season, but lately he is doing really a very good job," said Kubica.
"He is really consistent and very quick in both qualifying and the races so I think he has everything to fight for in the championship. "I think as a driver Felipe has done massive progress and he's showing it. "To put Kimi in trouble is not easy and he has done it. Okay, in some races Kimi is still quicker but lately Felipe has been more often in front of him and with quite big gaps." Media reports last month suggested that BMW had taken up their option on Kubica for next year but the Pole would become a free agent from 2010, when there could be a vacancy at glamour team Ferrari.

Why your domicile status is important
Your UK residence status is assessed using the statutory residence test. While your residence status – ie where you live - is assessed every year, your domicile status is assessed over your lifetime.
Your domicile of origin generally comes from your parents and if your parents were not married, then it is decided by your father. Your domicile is generally the country your father considered his permanent home when you were born.
UK residents who have their permanent home ("domicile") outside the UK may not have to pay UK tax on foreign income. For example, they do not pay tax on foreign income or gains if they are less than £2,000 in the tax year and do not transfer that gain to a UK bank account.
A UK-domiciled person, however, is liable for UK tax on their worldwide income and gains when they are resident in the UK.
Tank warfare
Lt Gen Erik Petersen, deputy chief of programs, US Army, has argued it took a “three decade holiday” on modernising tanks.
“There clearly remains a significant armoured heavy ground manoeuvre threat in this world and maintaining a world class armoured force is absolutely vital,” the general said in London last week.
“We are developing next generation capabilities to compete with and deter adversaries to prevent opportunism or miscalculation, and, if necessary, defeat any foe decisively.”
