The UAE is a leading model for multiculturalism and friendship with residents of all kinds of backgrounds calling it home, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak said.
The Minister for Tolerance was speaking ahead of the United Nations’ International Day of Friendship, held annually on July 30.
He said UAE Founding Father Sheikh Zayed established great examples of friendship based on respect, solidarity and social tolerance for the country’s leadership to follow. These are reflected in the UAE’s national policies and programmes that, he said, are global models for other country’s to follow.

Some 9.54 million people live in the UAE and the majority residents from different countries who live together harmoniously, Sheikh Nahyan said.
International Day of Friendship aims to promote the role of friendship in promoting peace in many cultures. To mark it, the UN encourages governments, organisations, and community groups to hold events, activities and initiatives that promote solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.
