Wozniacki out of Wimbledon

The Danish No 3 seed suffers a surprise defeat to Petra Kvitova, while fourth seed Jelena Jankovic is forced to retire from the tournament.

WIMBLEDON // The No 3 seed Caroline Wozniacki has been knocked out in the fourth round of Wimbledon by unseeded Czech Petra Kvitova. The fourth-ranked Wozniacki, aiming to reach the quarter-finals at the All England Club for the first time, was beaten 6-2, 6-0 in just 46 minutes. The Dane, last year's US Open runner-up, was dominated by the 62nd-ranked Kvitova, managing just four winners to her opponent's 23. Wozniacki won only six points on Kvitova's serve and failed to create a single break-point chance. It is the first time Kvitova has reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam from nine attempts. The 20-year-old will play either Klara Zakopalova or Kaia Kanepi for a berth in the semi-finals. Meanwhile the fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic has retired from her fourth-round match against Vera Zvonareva due to a back injury. The Serb had treatment when trailing Zvonareva 6-1, 3-0 today and retired three points later. It is the fourth time Jankovic has bowed out in the fourth round at Wimbledon. Zvonareva, who reaches the quarter-final at the All England Club for the first time, will face the winner of the all-Belgian clash between Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin.

China's Li Na kept the flag flying for Asia in the women's singles when she disposed of Polish seventh seed Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3 6-2. Li, into the quarter-finals for the second time, used her bludgeoning groundstrokes to keep Radwanska pinned to the back wall for much of their match on Court 18. The ninth seed converted the only break point of the first set to claim the lead in just 30 minutes, and sealed victory when she smashed away an easy overhead after 67 minutes. She will play either defending champion Serena Williams or Russian 16th seed and 2004 winner Maria Sharapova for a place in the semi-finals.
