Arsenal to take a point at Stamford Bridge: The National’s Premier League predictions

Liverpool v West Bromwich Albion: Without injured striker Daniel Sturridge and with only a point from their last three games, Liverpool have started the season poorly. Coming off the back of a midweek Champions League defeat to Basel, they could do with a boost and should get it at home to a West Brom side who don’t travel particularly well. Manchester United v Everton: Looking at the fixture list at the start of the season, this appeared to be the first major test of Louis van Gaal’s new United team. It hasn’t turned out that way, with United struggling so far, but so have Everton. It’s hard to see either side keeping a clean sheet. PREDICTION: 2-2 (REUTERS/Andrew Yates)

Aston Villa v Manchester City: This was always going to be a tough run of games for Villa. Starting with Liverpool, who they suprisingly beat at Anfield, they lost 3-0 to Arsenal and Chelsea. Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton: When Mauricio Pochettino left Southampton in the summer he probably didn’t expect to see them sitting in second in the table, while his own side struggled for fluidity. With a Europa League match on Thursday night for Spurs, this has away win written all over it. PREDICTION: Southampton, 2-1 (Jan Kruger/Getty Images)

Sunderland v Stoke City: Sunderland haven’t won a game yet, drawing five of six, while Stoke are unbeaten on the road. There is little spark on either side of the pitch, especially if Sunderland’s Adam Johnson doesn’t perform. PREDICTION: 0-0 (REUTERS/Russell Cheyne)

West Ham v QPR: QPR have conceded 10 goals away from home, scoring once. West Ham are starting to play well and could easily have take a point at Manchester United last week. Hull City v Crystal Palace: Steve Bruce made some clever signings at the end of the transfer window, such as Hatem Ben Arfa from Newcastle, who have yet to properly gel but could take Hull up a level or two in quality when they do. Swansea City v Newcastle United: This could be the game that sees Alan Pardew lose his job at Newcastle. They were ineffective up front against Stoke in a 1-0 loss on Monday, his new signings are still getting used to English football.
