Friday sermon: Remember Allah after prayers
Worshippers will be told to supplicate after completing their mandatory prayers
After finishing each prayer, Muslims should think of Allah. It is said to be the best time to remember Him and “completes” their prayer.
True believers will remember Allah and then seek forgiveness by repeating “AstaghfarAllah” three times, the sermon will tell worshippers on Friday.
According to Thawban, a Yemeni who was freed from slavery by Prophet Mohammed, the Prophet would end all his prayers with seeking forgiveness from God. The aim of this is to immediately seek redemption for any shortcomings made during prayer, such as distracting thoughts.
By supplicating in this way, Muslims draw themselves nearer to Allah. Other recommended supplications to make after obligatory prayers include repeating phrases says as SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaaha illa Allah, and Allahu akbar.
Whoever remembers Allah with these phrases 33 times and then ends their remembrance with the phrase La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahu al mulk, wa lahu al Hamd, wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir, will have their prayers answered by God and their sins forgiven.
“There are phrases of remembrance following the prayer, the one who repeats them will never be deprived of the reward,” Prophet Mohammed said.
Another recommendation the sermon will make on Friday, is for Muslims to recite Ayat Al Kursi after prayer, as this act will lead to great blessings and tremendous rewards.
“Someone who recites Ayat-al-Kursi after the end of every Prayer, nothing stands between him from entering Paradise except death,” the Prophet said.
Allah ordered Prophet Mohammed to supplicate after each prayer and to “direct his longing and needs towards Him” so He might answer his prayers.
On Friday, the sermon will call upon God to remind them to supplicate after each prayer. At the time of the Prophet, his companions would call out their supplications as a reminder to others so they could hear them and follow suit.
