A male nurse who sexually assaulted a woman after she repeatedly refused his advances has been sentenced to six months in prison.

The Indonesian maid said the health worker made numerous overtures towards her, but she told him she was "happily married".

Following the string of rejections, the Pakistani offender, 35, attacked the woman in the living room of their employer in May of this year.

Dubai Criminal Court was told both the victim and the defendant worked as hired help for a family in Bur Dubai.

“I was sitting in the staircase when he first asked to have sex. I refused and told him I was a happily married woman,” said the victim, 33.

Fearful she would lose her job, the woman initially kept the incident secret.

“I had just started the job and I was afraid if I told my sponsor, he would send me back to my country.”

But when the man continued to molest her, she informed her Emirati sponsor's wife.

“She came to my room and told me about the assault,” said the woman.

“She said she was afraid we wouldn't believe her and would terminate her services, so I comforted her and told my husband to call police.”

The nurse was arrested, but denied the sex assault charge under questioning.

He was convicted during a court hearing on Sunday and will be deported after serving his prison term.
