Archbishop serves lunch

Just two days after crowning the king, Justin Welby protected his clerical collar with the pinafore that featured the rockers’ winged emblem as he lent a hand at Catching Lives in Canterbury.
Lambeth Palace, the Archbishop’s office, said it was delighted with the “enthusiasm and support” for the king and queen’s “joyful and inspiring” coronation service.
The Archbishop, who is patron of the charity, was joined by his wife, Caroline, as he handed over plates of cottage pie.

Prince William's touching tribute to his father

Gillian Duncan writes:

Prince William paid a moving tribute to his father at a concert to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III on Sunday.

The prince, himself a future king, thanked everyone involved in the concert, before telling the audience he wanted "to say a few words about my father, and why I believe this weekend is so important".

"As my grandmother said when she was crowned, coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future," he said.

"And I know she's up there, fondly keeping an eye on us. She would be a very proud mother.

"For all that celebrations are magnificent, at the heart of the pageantry is a simple message: service. My father's first words on entering Westminster Abbey yesterday were a pledge of service. It was a pledge to continue to serve."

He spoke about the king's legacy, touching on the Prince's Trust, his work on the environment and attempts to promote interfaith and cultural harmony.

"Pa, we are all so proud of you," he added.

Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog spark huge laughter

The appearance of Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog sparked huge laughter from the King and the Prince of Wales, and even a chuckle from Prince George.

The king appeared to chuckle after Miss Piggy described Hugh Bonneville as a “real Lord” – mistaking the actor for the character he plays in Downton Abbey, the Earl of Grantham.

And the king laughed even harder after she referred to him as “King Charlesy Warlesy” and said he was “expecting” Kermit the Frog in the royal box.

Princess Charlotte and Prince George smiled as they watched on intently.

James Nesbitt delivers spoken word piece

James Nesbitt performed a spoken word piece written especially for the occasion by Daljit Nagra, chairman of the Royal Society of Literature.

The Cold Feet star said: “No-one’s an island when each is at home in the hope and glory. Born free, we’re a plucky bunch of every shade. From the bronze of the Celts across our Roman roads to Windrush and beyond.

“Today, just now, the spectacular parades of light travelling from Windsor to iconic heartlands across the realm so the kingdom be unified.

“Imagine Edinburgh Castle, near monuments for Scott and Burns, or imagine across the waters of Belfast, our Titanic dockyard and the blood, sweat, the toil that launched a thousand ships.

“Over there’s Blackpool, for Punch and Judy, glad rags for the tango and foxtrot, and out for a pint of Newkie Brown by the Gateshead Bridge, that harp of the Toon, the Tyne – it’s all mine.

"Now, all Yorkshire beams from the hall of seven-hilled Sheffield, now my heart’s with the famed anthem, the land of my fathers at Cardiff Millennium.

“Everywhere I look, from the golden miles of Leicester with their chicken masalas and jollof rice, to an eco-haven amid the botanical gardens of Cambridge, like the oasis at Eden with its rainforest under a dome, to our bold promise of the cliffs of Dover.

“Everywhere I look, within our shores, I feel a new phase, new chapter must begin. Just now. So let’s light up the nation like a smile.”

Prince William pays touching tribute to his father

Good evening Your Majesties.

Good evening Windsor!

A huge thank you to everyone for making this such a special evening.

I want to say a few words about my father, and why I believe this weekend is so important.

But don’t worry, unlike Lionel, I won’t go on all night long.

As my grandmother said when she was crowned, coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future.

And I know she’s up there, fondly keeping an eye on us.

She would be a proud mother.

For all that celebrations are magnificent, at the heart of the pageantry
is a simple message. Service.

My father’s first words on entering Westminster Abbey yesterday were a pledge of service.

It was a pledge to continue to serve.

Because for over 50 years, in every corner of the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world, he has dedicated himself to serve others, both current and future generations, and those whose memory must not be neglected.

Take the natural world.

He warned us of the risks to our planet’s health long before it was an everyday issue.

Or the Prince’s Trust.

It has supported over a million young people, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, to realise their ambitions.

And, perhaps most importantly of all, my father has always understood that people of all faiths, all backgrounds, and all communities, deserve to be celebrated and supported.

Pa, we are all so proud of you.

I also want to express my pride and gratitude for the millions of people who serve, in the forces, in classrooms, hospital wards and local communities.

I wish I could mention you all.

Your service inspires us.

And tonight we celebrate you too. I commit myself to serve you all.

King, country and commonwealth.

God Save The King!

British-Moroccan singer Zak Abel performs

British-Moroccan singer Zak Abel sang the Simple Minds hit Don’t You Forget About Me during a light display inspired by the king’s love of nature.

Abel sang alongside a performance by pianist Alexis Ffrench with an introduction voiced by the king on the theme of conservation.

The performance was accompanied by a drone scene of a Prince Charles Clematis flower appearing in the sky above Windsor, followed by a giant multi-coloured butterfly.

The drones also created a twisting wave before a huge whale appeared to leap out of the screen and into the air.

At the end of the sequence, “Don’t forget about me” appeared written in the sky.

The king and queen danced along to Take That’s performance of Shine as Princess George and his sister Princess Charlotte enthusiastically waved their Union flags.

In the final performance of the Windsor Coronation Concert, the band, who have not performed together for four years, ended with Never Forget – as Kermit the Frog danced along.
