DUBLIN // A group of Irish secondary school students participating in the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition has developed a new salt mix that could have provided the perfect antidote to Europe's big freeze earlier this month. Emily Long, Fionnuala Kennedy and Julianne O'Connell, from the Presentation Secondary School in Tipperary, Ireland produced a formula that is less harmful to vegetation than ordinary sodium chloride solutions, less likely to cause corrosion and could prevent roads from refreezing when temperatures drop below zero.
