There is always something odd about seeing a person of authority outside their line of work.
It probably stems back to the day you discovered your teacher has a life out of school after spotting them weigh up what type of apples to purchase at the supermarket.
You shouldn't gawp as they meander to the check-out in a pair of jeans and t-shirt. Then you exacerbate matters by deciding to shout out their name or some other inane phrase. Both parties leave the scene embarrassed.
So to see a veteran Premier League referee on the other side of the advertising hoardings sends the kid inside you a bit giddy.
Mike Dean, the first official to brandish 100 red cards in Premier League football, was spotted cheering on his local club Tranmere Rovers as they defeated Forest Green Rovers on aggregate to progress to the League Two play-off final.
The referee is seen going wild on the terraces at the final whistle, leading Rovers' fans in celebration by standing on top of a crush barrier and pumping his fists in delight at The New Lawn. He's caused quite a stir on Twitter.
It's refreshing to see a referee in his civvies cheering on his club. Just remember, the men and women (usually) in black are human too. And they are probably bigger fans of football than you or I will ever be.
