Over the past few months, we have noticed a major shift in attitudes as more people have come to realise the importance of a healthy body and lifestyle to their overall well-being – and, indeed, whole way of life – at work and at leisure. Equally, increasing numbers of people have realised the damage that can be done by an unhealthy lifestyle.
That is why in September we at The National launched our Healthy Living campaign. It is part of our commitment to raising awareness about adopting healthy habits to boost the quality of everyone's life. This section is part of that campaign.
It is too easy these days to get carried away with our responsibilities, at home and at work. The pace of life seems to be accelerating almost beyond control and, as a result, we tend to neglect ourselves, we forget our needs and put everything else ahead of us. But our loved ones, our colleagues – even our bosses – would like to see us healthier and stronger. We hope that the articles in this magazine will help you achieve that.
Whether you are someone who has been spending too long on the couch, or are an ardent five-times-a-week gymnista, our aim is to show that being fitter and eating healthier can also be more enjoyable.
There is an abundance of opportunity out there, some of which we hope will be new to you. The UAE has no shortage of health clubs, public parks, jogging and cycling paths, and an incredible range of activities taking place almost hourly. And for refuelling before or afterwards, an equally incredible range of restaurants and eating options – healthy, too.
We've also chosen to share with you stories from some of our colleagues in The National's editorial departments, including workout tips, favourite places to eat and health secrets.
So, no need for resolutions. A new, fitter, healthier you could be just a click or two away. I look forward to receiving your feedback and comments through Facebook (facebook.com/gethealthyuae) or Twitter (@gethealthyuae).
