De-clutter: Start the year by deciding what you really need. Once you've given away unnecessary items, be creative with your space. Install high shelves, under-bed boxes or hiding places beneath the stairs.
Embrace tech: Whether it's a connected fridge that you can text to check on food supplies or a TV that you can programme from the other side of the world, treat yourself to new appliances as they become increasingly affordable.
Learn a skill: From reupholstering your sofa, making your own curtains or distressing your cabinets, learn something new this year. Either sign yourself up for a local course or search online for a tutorial and let 2015 be the year that you develop your DIY skills. Basic skills in plumbing and maintenance will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.
Refresh: It's a good time to make changes. Perhaps there's a more daring colour for your front door or a new refrigerator that you've been eyeing. Also, upcycle old items to give them a new lease on life.
