Men detained over shooting of Turkish singer Ibrahim Tatlises

ANKARA, TURKEY // The governor of Istanbul says 14 people have been detained for questioning over an armed attack that seriously wounded Ibrahim Tatlises, a singer popular in Turkey and across the Middle East.

Huseyin Avni Mutlu said the suspects include Abdullah Ucmak, a man who had openly threatened Mr Tatlises in a television interview in 1998. The two are reportedly involved in a feud over money.

Tatlises, who is 59, was shot in the head in his car on Monday as he left a television station after his weekly music and chat show. His assistant was also wounded. The assailants escaped.

Doctors said today the singer's condition is improving.
