UAE authorities have reminded the public it is illegal to drive someone's car without permission.
Prosecutors said offenders could be fined Dh10,000 ($2,723) or jailed for up to a year.
In an official tweet, the Public Prosecution said that, under Article 394 of the Penal Code, anyone caught driving someone's vehicle without permission would be penalised.
UAE residents caught driving without a valid licence can be fined Dh50,000 and sent to jail for up to three months.
On Saturday, Abu Dhabi Police said more than 27,000 fines were given to drivers in the emirate in the first six months of the year for "distracted driving".
Taking calls and checking messages, along with looking around to talk to passengers, were among the offences that led to Dh800 fines being issued.
"According to statistics and analytical studies, distracted driving is among the most dangerous offences, as it may lead to serious injuries and even cost lives," Abu Dhabi Police's traffic directorate said.
Last week, the force said it fined 770 drivers for running noisy vehicles in 2021, including many owners who deliberately adjusted their vehicles to be as loud as possible.
