Salesman jailed for brutal attack on woman

Assailant called his victim "indecent and cheap"

A salesman was sentenced to three months in prison for brutally assaulting a woman after an argument between the two turned physical.

He was also ordered to pay his victim Dh10,000 in temporary compensation.

Prosecutors, who did not disclose the reason behind the argument, told Dubai Criminal Court that the Egyptian defendant, 22, used his hands and feet to strike and kick the woman's body, before lifting her and slamming her body against the floor.
The incident happened at a Jebel Ali apartment on December 2 last year.
In her statement, the Arab American woman, 30, said the accused arrived at her apartment and started insulting her but she did not explain why.
"He said I was indecent and cheap, among other bad things, so I picked up his items and asked him to leave," she said.
She added that he lifted her up then threw her on the floor before leaning over and punching her repeatedly.
"He also banged my head against the floor while screaming that I would die," the woman told police.
"He said he would make orphans of my children as he punched me over and over, then he mistakenly punched the floor so I seized the moment and escaped."
The woman's maid, who heard the screams for help, called police at which point the man threatened to kill her if she reported him.
A medical report said the woman suffered multiple bruises and a fracture in one of her fingers.
The accused was convicted of issuing death threats, physical assault and insults.
He denied all charges in court last September, but was convicted and will be deported after serving his prison term.
