DUBAI // A flight attendant who brought crystal methamphetamine and hashish into the country will serve four years in jail after Dubai Court of Appeal upheld his sentence.

Brazilian J M said at the criminal and appeal courts that he used the illegal drugs outside the UAE and that the drugs found were for personal use.

Prosecutors said that on February 19, a customs search at Dubai airport’s Terminal 3 of J M’s luggage revealed drug paraphernalia.

“I found a device that is used to slice and grind drugs, with a dark substance inside it, then I found a plastic bag containing a white substance,” said customs officer S D, 24.

She sent the 30-year-old flight attendant to a police station where he was detained. Officers searched his home in Dubai and found a variety of drugs.

“He had hashish, methamphetamine and several types of prescription-based drugs at his house,” an officer told Dubai Criminal Court in June.

The defendant pleaded guilty to charges of importing drugs with the intent to consume, and consumption of drugs. He was sentenced to four years in jail followed by deportation, which he appealed against and lost.
