WHO IS COMPETING?
The battle for the Muhammad Ali trophy pits against one another Englishmen George Groves and Callum Smith, the No 1 and No 3 best-ranked active super-middleweights in the world according to the renowned The Ring magazine. World titleholder Groves (28-3, 20 KOs) will be making the third defence of his WBA crown when he faces Smith (24-0, 17 KOs). The undercard includes Chris Eubank Jr, the son of celebrated former boxer Chris Eubank.
WHAT IS THE WBSS?
Beginning last September, the WBSS is a first-of-its kind annual boxing tournament that features eight top-ranked super-middleweights in an elimination format. Thus far, fights have taken place in England and Germany. The winner will hold the WBA world title, as well as the Muhammad Ali Trophy.
