Two bad results for Uruguay, two defeats in five days to make the South American World Cup qualifying group much tighter.
We were second going into Friday’s home game against group leaders Brazil. It was first against second, a huge match in front of the 55,000 sell-out Centenario in Montevideo. I honestly thought Uruguay had a strong chance of winning. We’ve got a strong team and we were at home.
I chose to watch it at home with friends and family rather than at the stadium. I spent my whole career in stadiums, I want to enjoy some games where I’m relaxed with the people closest to me. Not that many of them felt relaxed as Brazil scored four.
It’s a measure of how good Brazil were that they can go to the second placed team in the world’s toughest qualifying group and do that. Edinson Cavani put Uruguay ahead and then Brazil stormed back. Paulinho, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, equalised with a superb goal from outside the box. He would score three of their four goals, but the standout player was the man who got the other one: Neymar.

Brazil’s captain is in incredible form at the moment. He was the main man in Barcelona’s comeback against Paris Saint-Germain but he’s outstandingly good for Brazil too.
Brazil have always had some of the best individual talents in football, yet I was impressed with how they defended and provided a secure base for Neymar’s magic. He made it look easy as he went past very good defenders. He’s a game changer — if he doesn’t score then he assists — and there are so few of them about. He looked dangerous every time he got the ball and everyone knew it.
Philippe Coutinho did well too — another player putting in performances for club and country. I played with him at Inter Milan and saw his talent then.
Tite is a fine manager for Brazil. He took Corinthians to the Copa Libertadores and Fifa Club World Cup titles and he has coached all around Brazil — and at Al Ain and Al Wahda in the UAE. He’s only been in charge of Brazil since last June but he has a formidable and well organised side with the individuals to win any match.

Brazil have played nine games with him and won every one. They are in perfect shape just over a year ahead of the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia. They are now nine points clear in the qualifying group, they’ve already qualified and I can’t see anyone catching them at the top.
I loved playing against Brazil, our neighbours from the north. They are a much bigger country of 200 million against our three million — not that any player thinks about that as he’s taking to the field.
Uruguay don’t have to play Brazil again in this group (we actually got a 2-2 draw in Brazil last March before Tite took over), but to lose 1-2 in Peru this week was a big disappointment.
We didn’t create enough chances, although Diego Godin hit the post. And so Uruguay have slipped to third in the group behind Colombia. Just two points separate Colombia in second with Argentina in fifth. The first four qualify automatically and the fifth place team goes into a play-off.

Uruguay’s next game? Argentina at home in August. That is going to be such a huge game and both teams need to win. Argentina, our old rivals from the other side of the River Plate, will be without Lionel Messi who has three games left to serve of a four game ban. It will hurt them being without the best player in the world, but look at their squad. Almost all their players are at top clubs around the world.
Argentina’s national side is in transition, though. There have been changes at the top of their football federation, results have been mixed and now Messi is out for another three matches.
Messi is banned for insulting someone. Who? That depends who you ask. Argentina may appeal and say that he was insulting nobody, but video evidence appears to show that he was insulting someone and it looks like his target was an official.
The evidence came from television — nothing was seen during the game and the referee didn’t mention it in his match report. To miss four matches, including the damaging 2-0 defeat to Bolivia on Wednesday, at such a crucial stage in the group is a major blow for Argentina.

There are only four matches left in the group stage, but Uruguay have to be careful when Argentina come to play at the Centenario in August. Very careful. This is the team who were ranked No 1 in the world when the group stage began in 2015.
The top five in the group are now Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, South American champions Chile and Argentina. Ecuador are sixth — just two points behind Argentina. Peru’s win against Uruguay means they are only two points behind Ecuador with the same points as Paraguay. It’s really close and really exciting because eight of the 10 teams can still reach the World Cup finals.
Uruguay worked really hard to get up to second before last week. They will not throw that away, but they must get those wins because even a fifth place play-off would seem like a disappointment. I have faith in my compatriots to do well against Argentina and then away to Paraguay and Venezuela before a last home game against Bolivia in October. Then I can hopefully watch my country in the first finals that I’ve not played in since 1998.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Three ways to limit your social media use
Clinical psychologist, Dr Saliha Afridi at The Lighthouse Arabia suggests three easy things you can do every day to cut back on the time you spend online.
1. Put the social media app in a folder on the second or third screen of your phone so it has to remain a conscious decision to open, rather than something your fingers gravitate towards without consideration.
2. Schedule a time to use social media instead of consistently throughout the day. I recommend setting aside certain times of the day or week when you upload pictures or share information.
3. Take a mental snapshot rather than a photo on your phone. Instead of sharing it with your social world, try to absorb the moment, connect with your feeling, experience the moment with all five of your senses. You will have a memory of that moment more vividly and for far longer than if you take a picture of it.

How the bonus system works
The two riders are among several riders in the UAE to receive the top payment of £10,000 under the Thank You Fund of £16 million (Dh80m), which was announced in conjunction with Deliveroo's £8 billion (Dh40bn) stock market listing earlier this year.
The £10,000 (Dh50,000) payment is made to those riders who have completed the highest number of orders in each market.
There are also riders who will receive payments of £1,000 (Dh5,000) and £500 (Dh2,500).
All riders who have worked with Deliveroo for at least one year and completed 2,000 orders will receive £200 (Dh1,000), the company said when it announced the scheme.

Mercer, the investment consulting arm of US services company Marsh & McLennan, expects its wealth division to at least double its assets under management (AUM) in the Middle East as wealth in the region continues to grow despite economic headwinds, a company official said.
Mercer Wealth, which globally has $160 billion in AUM, plans to boost its AUM in the region to $2-$3bn in the next 2-3 years from the present $1bn, said Yasir AbuShaban, a Dubai-based principal with Mercer Wealth.
“Within the next two to three years, we are looking at reaching $2 to $3 billion as a conservative estimate and we do see an opportunity to do so,” said Mr AbuShaban.
Mercer does not directly make investments, but allocates clients’ money they have discretion to, to professional asset managers. They also provide advice to clients.
“We have buying power. We can negotiate on their (client’s) behalf with asset managers to provide them lower fees than they otherwise would have to get on their own,” he added.
Mercer Wealth’s clients include sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and insurance companies among others.
From its office in Dubai, Mercer also looks after Africa, India and Turkey, where they also see opportunity for growth.
Wealth creation in Middle East and Africa (MEA) grew 8.5 per cent to $8.1 trillion last year from $7.5tn in 2015, higher than last year’s global average of 6 per cent and the second-highest growth in a region after Asia-Pacific which grew 9.9 per cent, according to consultancy Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In the region, where wealth grew just 1.9 per cent in 2015 compared with 2014, a pickup in oil prices has helped in wealth generation.
BCG is forecasting MEA wealth will rise to $12tn by 2021, growing at an annual average of 8 per cent.
Drivers of wealth generation in the region will be split evenly between new wealth creation and growth of performance of existing assets, according to BCG.
Another general trend in the region is clients’ looking for a comprehensive approach to investing, according to Mr AbuShaban.
“Institutional investors or some of the families are seeing a slowdown in the available capital they have to invest and in that sense they are looking at optimizing the way they manage their portfolios and making sure they are not investing haphazardly and different parts of their investment are working together,” said Mr AbuShaban.
Some clients also have a higher appetite for risk, given the low interest-rate environment that does not provide enough yield for some institutional investors. These clients are keen to invest in illiquid assets, such as private equity and infrastructure.
“What we have seen is a desire for higher returns in what has been a low-return environment specifically in various fixed income or bonds,” he said.
“In this environment, we have seen a de facto increase in the risk that clients are taking in things like illiquid investments, private equity investments, infrastructure and private debt, those kind of investments were higher illiquidity results in incrementally higher returns.”
The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, one of the largest sovereign wealth funds, said in its 2016 report that has gradually increased its exposure in direct private equity and private credit transactions, mainly in Asian markets and especially in China and India. The authority’s private equity department focused on structured equities owing to “their defensive characteristics.”
