Al Jazira won a five-goal thriller over Al Gharafa to get their Asian Champions League Group A campaign off to a bright start at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Romario put Jazira in front and Ali Mabkhout regained the lead after Mehdi Taremi struck an equaliser.
Ahmed Al Hashmi added a third in the second half and Wesley Sneijder pulled one back on 71 minutes but the home side saw off the remainder of the game to end a winless run of 15 games in the continental championship.
Earlier on Monday, Al Wahda suffered a 5-0 away defeat to Lokomotiv Tashkent in Group B.
