With the summer transfer window set to close next week, expect a flurry of activity as clubs look to finalise their squads for the busy months ahead.
Most of Europe's top leagues – English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 – close their markets on September 1, with the German Bundesliga ending a day earlier.
The Saudi Pro League clubs, meanwhile, have plenty of time left to bring in new players as their window remains open until September 6.
Below, we pick out some potential transfers to keep an eye on over the coming days.
Will Man City make late Fernandez bid?
New Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca appeared to make it clear to club bosses at the weekend where their transfer priorities should lie when he started centre-back Marc Guehi in midfield against Bournemouth.
Before the 2-1 comeback win at the Etihad Stadium, reports emerged that City had agreed an £86 million deal to bring in 18-year-old Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.
And reports persist that Maresca is keen to sign Argentina World Cup star Enzo Fernandez from his former club Chelsea as City look to fill the Rodri-sized gap in the middle of the park.
But the West London club appear in no mood to play ball, having told interested parties that there was an August 14 deadline to make a move for the 25-year-old, which has long since passed. City, though, could yet test their resolve with a late £120m bid.
Are Marmoush, Grealish and Gonzalez heading for exit?
It has been a summer of exits at the Etihad Stadium with manager Pep Guardiola, defenders John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake, plus midfielder Bernardo Silva, all heading out of the door.
They have since been joined by midfield duo Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders — who joined Barcelona and Al Qadsiah respectively — with winger Savinho closing in on a switch to Tottenham Hotspur. He could be joined in North London by Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush.
Midfielder Nico Gonzalez looks set to join Newcastle United, while Everton are thought to be keen on bringing Jack Grealish back for a second loan spell on Merseyside.
Are Watkins and Martinelli bound for Al Hilal?
Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal are poised for a double swoop on the English top flight.
Aston Villa's alarming 4-0 opening-game battering at Brighton was compounded by the news that striker Ollie Watkins had been unavailable for selection.
Manager Unai Emery confirmed earlier in the week that there had been offers made for the England striker, with 21-time Saudi champions Al Hilal strongly linked with a move for the 30-year-old.
When asked after the Brighton game whether it was his choice to leave out Watkins, Emery replied, “This question is for him. You can call him and try to get his answer.”
Also on Hilal's radar is Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli, with talks between the two clubs having already taken place for the Brazilian, who is not part of manager Mikel Arteta's plans for the new season.
Turkish side Galatasaray made a €45m offer earlier in the summer, but the 25-year-old made it clear he was not interested in a move to Istanbul, with Riyadh now looking a more likely destination. Hilal are set to bid higher than Galatasaray's offer to secure his signature.
Will Alvarez go to Arsenal or Barcelona?
Arsenal's hopes of signing Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior were doomed to failure, with the Brazil forward signing a bumper new contract with Los Blancos instead.
But the reigning Premier League champions still appear keen for a superstar signing up front, with Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez reported to be on their wish list.
The Argentina striker announced during the World Cup that he wanted to leave Atletico to “fulfil my dream”. Barcelona have been regularly linked with a move – much to Atletico's annoyance.
But a deal has not yet been done, with Alvarez still in the Spanish capital, where he found himself booed by his own fans after coming on as a second-half substitute during Atletico's weekend draw with Villarreal.
If the Barcelona switch fails to materialise, former Manchester City man Alvarez could find himself heading back to England to provide the Gunners with the 20-plus-goal-a-season striker their squad lacks.
Can Liverpool bring in Barcola and Baye?
Liverpool needed an injury-time penalty from Dominik Szoboszlai to rescue a point at Newcastle on Sunday, but looked like a side in need of new arrivals, having lost attacking talisman Mohamed Salah during the summer.
The Merseysiders have been negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain for attacking duo of Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Baye, but the two clubs remain far apart with their respective valuations.
PSG manager Luis Enrique again omitted the pair from his squad for their Ligue 1 draw with Rennes on Sunday, having done so for their French Super Cup loss to Lens the previous weekend. Luis Campos, PSG’s sporting adviser, suggested at the weekend that deals could still be completed for the pair before the window closes.
Liverpool are also looking to sign Brighton's Yankuba Minteh, after bids of £50m and £60m were turned down for the winger last week.
