Saudi designer Aisha El Battal is the first casualty as season two of Fashion Star kicks off

Fashion Star, an Arabic, Dubai-based reality show based around a fashion design competition, aired the first episode of its second season on Wednesday, Macrh 1. High-profile fashion personalities like Lebanese designer Reem Acra and Tunisian model Hanaa Ben Abdesslem are some of the famous names featured on the show, and the guest of honour in last night's episode was L'Officiel Morocco editor-in-chief Sofia Benbrahim.

The winner of Fashion Star will receive a cash prize of Dh300,000 and the opportunity to sell his or her designs through Dubai-based e-commerce platform, Namshi.com.

The 12 contestants taking part in this season of Fashion Star are Tatyana Aceeva from Jordan, Aicha El Battal from Saudi Arabia, Eddine Belahmadi from Algeria, Zeid Ben Houria from Tunisia, Samir Kerzabi from Algeria, Walid Khairy from Egypt, Shaymaa Maher from Egypt, Samar Nasraldin from Saudi Arabia, Nadim Nemr from Lebanon, Nazem Orra from Lebanon, Yusra Al Riflawi from Tunisia, and Joyce Saadeh from Lebanon.

Their first challenge was a difficult one: to create three designs that show their creative identities, within two days. While the highest score was awarded to Lebanese contestant Nadim Nemr, Saudi Aisha El Battal received the lowest score, and was sent home.

Fashion Star airs on Dubai One on Wednesdays at 10pm.
