A driver has been arrested over the deaths of two teenage Emirati girls in a road crash in Ras Al Khaimah on Saturday evening.
Ras Al Khaimah Police said the victims, aged 14 and 15, were riding on a quad bike on an internal road in the emirate when they were struck by a car travelling behind them.
The two girls died at the scene as a result of their injuries, the police said.
The police said initial investigations had concluded that the driver had not noticed the vehicle travelling in front when the crash occurred.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to hospital by ambulance and are to be handed over to their families.
A 37-year-old Emirati has been arrested in connection with the fatal incident.
Ras Al Khaimah Police urged motorists to exercise caution, abide by traffic regulations and speed limits and drive with due care and attention when behind the wheel to help prevent “such tragic accidents that claim innocent lives”.
