Of the dozen runway models participating in this year's Muscat Fashion Week, we caught up with the 23-year-old Ukrainian Darya Kovalenko, who flew in for the event from her home in Dubai

How long have you been modelling and how were you discovered?

I've been doing it since I was 12 years old and was originally a competitive swimmer. One day, an agent approached my mother and suggested I try modelling due to my height. I gave it a go, loved it and didn't want to stop so I quit swimming.

How did you end up in Dubai?

I actually first went there for a modelling job and then I met my husband who lived there.

How have you found MFW?

It's so nice, very well organised; everything is smooth and relaxed, not at all stressed.

What other fashion weeks have you done?

Dubai, Ukranian, Russian, Milan and Paris Fashion Week.

How do they compare to MFW?

To be honest, they are so much more stressful than this.

Whose designs have you enjoyed wearing the most?

I really like Ahmed Talfit's - his dresses are so cool. Also Tatyana Aceeva of Jordan, I really like her dresses - they are so feminine, which is just my style.
