The Entertainer launches food delivery app Munch offering restaurants 'fair' commission rates

The Entertainer has launched a food delivery app in the UAE, and it promises to offer restaurants a fair commission partnership.

The launch comes as a number of restaurants across the country urged existing delivery services to cap their commission to help establishments struggling during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Munch will offer restaurants a fixed commission rate of five per cent, a significant reduction on commission rates usually charged by delivery apps, which can be up to 35 per cent per order, on top of the specified delivery fee paid for by the customer.

While it is standard practice for third-party services to take a cut of restaurant orders, on top of the delivery fee charged, over the past few months restaurateurs have been calling on them to revisit their percentages.

It will also offer a fixed delivery fee if merchants do not have delivery vehicles.

"Munch not only secures the future of many restaurants, but it also allows customers to support their favourite restaurant and the industry in ways they weren't initially aware of," said general manager Chris Daniels.

“Our expertise and innovation ensure both restaurateurs and customers experience the best price, selection and service. We can't wait to deliver our customers’ favourite food at the same time as supporting our much-loved restaurants in the post-lockdown world."

The app, which launched on Wednesday, July 15, is free to download on both iOS and Android. Some of the restaurants available so far include Wok Boyz, Nando’s, Le Burger, Papa John’s and Chili’s.

BOSH!'s pantry essentials

Nutritional yeast

This is Firth's pick and an ingredient he says, "gives you an instant cheesy flavour". He advises making your own cream cheese with it or simply using it to whip up a mac and cheese or wholesome lasagne. It's available in organic and specialist grocery stores across the UAE.

Seeds

"We've got a big jar of mixed seeds in our kitchen," Theasby explains. "That's what you use to make a bolognese or pie or salad: just grab a handful of seeds and sprinkle them over the top. It's a really good way to make sure you're getting your omegas."

Umami flavours

"I could say soya sauce, but I'll say all umami-makers and have them in the same batch," says Firth. He suggests having items such as Marmite, balsamic vinegar and other general, dark, umami-tasting products in your cupboard "to make your bolognese a little bit more 'umptious'".

Onions and garlic

"If you've got them, you can cook basically anything from that base," says Theasby. "These ingredients are so prevalent in every world cuisine and if you've got them in your cupboard, then you know you've got the foundation of a really nice meal."

Your grain of choice

Whether rice, quinoa, pasta or buckwheat, Firth advises always having a stock of your favourite grains in the cupboard. "That you, you have an instant meal and all you have to do is just chuck a bit of veg in."
