Beyonce and Billie Eilish among Oscars 2022 performers

The singers, who appear on the tracks nominated for Best Original Song, will take to the stage as part of the ceremony on March 27

As is tradition at the Oscars, nominees for the year's Best Original Song are all set to perform live this year, after a scaled-back event in 2021 relegated them to a pre-show segment. Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Finneas, Reba McEntire and Sebastian Yatra have all been tapped as performers for the March 27 ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Northern Irish singer Van Morrison, who wrote and performed Down to Joy for the film Belfast, will not make it to the show owing to scheduling conflicts with his ongoing tour.

Beyonce is set to perform Be Alive from King Richard, which is up for six awards, including Best Actor for Will Smith. Eilish and her brother, Finneas, will perform No Time to Die, from the James Bond film of the same name. The 2021 blockbuster, which was Daniel Craig's last outing as 007, is up for three awards.

Country singer McEntire will take to the stage for Somehow You Do, from the drug addiction drama Four Good Days, the film's only nomination, while Yatra will perform Dos Oruguitas from the Disney animated film Encanto, one of three nominations for the global hit including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score.

Morrison, who was born in Belfast, and whose classics dominate the score of Belfast, a heartfelt retelling of the beginning of The Troubles in the 1960s through the eyes of a young boy, wrote Down to Joy for the film. Directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, the feature, which recently won Outstanding British Film at Baftas, is up for seven Oscars, including the coveted Best Picture.

Comedians Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes will host the 94th Academy Awards show, a move organisers are hoping will attract more audiences after dismal viewership in the pandemic era. It’s the first time hosting for all three women and the first time in 35 years there has been this many hosts for one broadcast.

Presenters this year include Lady Gaga, who missed out on an Oscar nomination for her turn in House of Gucci, Kevin Costner, Chris Rock, Zoe Kravitz, Rosie Perez and Youn Yuh-jung, who won the Best Supporting Actress award last year for Minari.

Past Oscar winners Rami Malek and Anthony Hopkins will also present, along with Marvel star Simu Liu, Uma Thurman, Ruth E Carter, Lily James and John Leguizamo.

“Movies inspire us, entertain us and unite us across the globe,” said show producer Will Packer earlier. “That’s the precise goal of the show this year, and we’re thrilled to welcome the first of a stellar line-up joining the Oscars stage to help us celebrate the power of film and honour the year’s best in filmmaking.”
