DOHA // Three workers died and several others were injured at a Qatari military construction site, according to the state news agency.

The defence ministry said the incident at a construction site of the Qatari Armed Forces “resulted in the deaths of three workers, in addition to a number of injuries”, reported the Qatar News Agency on Tuesday.

The ministry “stressed its commitment to abide by the highest safety standards in all its facilities”, and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

No details were given of how, when or where the incident took place.

Two deaths involving World Cup 2022 workers have been announced in the last seven months.

A British man, Zac Cox, died in January in a fall at Doha’s Khalifa International Stadium. The renovated venue opens this weekend — the first World Cup stadium to be unveiled.

In June 2013, 13 labourers died in a fire at an accommodation camp.
