DOHA // Qatar’s Supreme Health Council confirmed that a 73-year-old Qatari man has died from the Mers coronavirus — the country’s first fatality from the virus in 2015.
A health authority statement carried by Qatar News Agency, QNA, said that the man was already a confirmed Mers case but died from complications.
The Supreme Health Council said another man, an expatriate who was diagnosed with Mers on May 21, is receiving treatment and his condition is stable.
Qatar has reported four Mers cases this year, including the man who died on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a South Korean man who had travelled to China via Hong Kong this week has tested positive for Mers, a health ministry official in Seoul said on Friday.
Chinese health authorities have notified South Korea of the test result on the 44-year-old man, the ministry official said.
The man, who is a son of another patient who was confirmed last week to have been infected, flew to Hong Kong, then travelled to mainland China by bus.
