ABU DHABI // An Ethiopian cleaner in Qatar has received a cash award for returning two diamond rings valued at Dh473,817 (US$129,000).

The jewelery was left in a bathroom at the Qatar National Convention Centre last February, Doha News reported.

A 32-year-old-cleaner named Andnet Zelekew discovered the rings and turned them in.

The convention centre management awarded her a cash prize for her honesty.

“I applaud and thank Ms Zelekew for her honesty and rectitude,” said Qatar National Convention Centre General Manager Ken Jamieson in a statement. “QNCC believes in fostering a working environment that is loyal, secure and trusting. For this reason, we believe that our employees always display exceptional integrity.”
