Watch: heavy rain causes flooding in parts of the UAE

Flooding was reported in areas of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah where videos emerged showing rivers of rainwater flowing through wadis

Heavy rain lashed parts of the UAE on Tuesday causing flash-floods in the northern emirates.

Flooding was reported in Asimah and Kadra in Ras Al Khaimah and in Al Khulaibiya, Wadi Sider and Siji in Fujairah.

Light to moderate rain was also reported over Al Manama and Al Naseem in Ajman.

Videos showing rivers of rainwater flowing through wadis in Fujairah surfaced online as the National Centre of Meteorology warned of more rain expected in the those emirates.

Forecasters said residents could expect towering clouds and heavy rain until 7pm. Gusty winds of up to 38kph are also expected.

Forecasters warned residents of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, particularly those living in more remote areas, to be alert and comply with advice issued by authorities.

Flash flooding is common in the northern emirates and police recommend residents not drive unless necessary to avoid potentially being swept up in them. Motorists are also advised not to drive near wadis, where flash flooding is most common.

In November, an Indian teenager was swept away by floods in Khor Fakkan. He was one of five travelling in a Mitsubishi Pajero across Wadi Chees in Fujairah when they were caught in a flash flood caused by heavy rain. The 18-year-old's body was found in Madha Dam in Oman a week later.

Hot and hazy weather will persist across the remaining emirates for the rest of the week. Light winds will pick up dust and reduce visibility to 2km in some areas.

Temperatures will range between 32°C and 41°C in Abu Dhabi and from 31°C to 39°C in Dubai. The coolest temperatures can be found in Umm Al Quwain and Ajman with ranges of 30°C to 37°C though humidity will remain high across the country.

Waters will be rough in the Arabian Gulf and moderately choppy in the Sea of Oman.
