Firefighters saved a mosque and school from damage during a blaze in Sharjah.

A fire took hold off two vehicles and the shade above them at Sharjah International Private School.

The flames threatened to spread to the school's main building and a mosque on the same site.

Civil Defence said crews were called to the scene about 2pm on Thursday and extinguished the flames in about 20 minutes.

The fire sent plumes of smoke over the neighbourhood.

It was not clear how the blaze began.
