More than 750 fines were issued to bus and truck drivers by Abu Dhabi Police over four days for driving during fog.
Abu Dhabi Police’s General Department of Traffic and Patrols fined 753 heavy truck drivers between Thursday, December 21, and Sunday, December 24.
Lt Col Dr Abdullah Al Suwaidi, deputy director of the external roads traffic department at Abu Dhabi Police, said the department ordered truck drivers not to drive during fog and instead wait until the roads became clear to ensure the safety of road users and avoid possible fatal accidents.
"Police campaigns during unstable weather and low visibility will continue and truck drivers will be fined Dh1,000 and given four black points while drivers of buses and vans will be fined Dh500 and issued four black points," said Lt Col Al Suwaidi.
He said drivers of truck and light vehicles should stop their vehicles in a safe zone off the road if they have already begun their journey.
