Latest: Driver in school guard death hit accelerator pedal 'by mistake'
Tributes have been paid to a security guard who died after being hit by a vehicle outside the gates of the Dubai school he worked at.
Universal American School (UAS) in Festival City confirmed an employee died on Monday.
"An unfortunate incident took place outside the school gates of UAS on Monday afternoon, which sadly resulted in the passing of one of our security guards," a statement from UAS said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the security guard and the rest of the security team at this difficult time and we are offering our full support."
The security guard was named locally as Lil Bahador Pariyar, who is understood to have worked at the school, which opened in 2005, for a number of years.
Pariyar was described as "always very genuine and loved striking conversations with people".
Dubai Police officers are investigating the accident.
A police official told The National that inquiries are at an early stage but it is understood a woman drove into Pariyar as she made a U-turn outside the school gates.
An eyewitness said the guard was ushering cars through the gates when the accident occurred.
He described how school workers ran to the man's aid as another security guard shouted for help.
Floral tributes were left outside the school on Tuesday.
A well-wisher also placed a large hand-written note, carrying the name of the deceased, at the scene.
It read: "Every morning when we come to school you would greet us with a smile.
"Every evening [as] we left you waved us goodbye.
"Every when we didn't see you [you] would keep us safe.
"We hope you rest in peace and know that you'll be missed by so many."
Family reunited
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was born and raised in Tehran and studied English literature before working as a translator in the relief effort for the Japanese International Co-operation Agency in 2003.
She moved to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies before moving to the World Health Organisation as a communications officer.
She came to the UK in 2007 after securing a scholarship at London Metropolitan University to study a master's in communication management and met her future husband through mutual friends a month later.
The couple were married in August 2009 in Winchester and their daughter was born in June 2014.
She was held in her native country a year later.

The alternatives
• Founded in 2014, Telr is a payment aggregator and gateway with an office in Silicon Oasis. It’s e-commerce entry plan costs Dh349 monthly (plus VAT). QR codes direct customers to an online payment page and merchants can generate payments through messaging apps.
• Business Bay’s Pallapay claims 40,000-plus active merchants who can invoice customers and receive payment by card. Fees range from 1.99 per cent plus Dh1 per transaction depending on payment method and location, such as online or via UAE mobile.
• Tap started in May 2013 in Kuwait, allowing Middle East businesses to bill, accept, receive and make payments online “easier, faster and smoother” via goSell and goCollect. It supports more than 10,000 merchants. Monthly fees range from US$65-100, plus card charges of 2.75-3.75 per cent and Dh1.2 per sale.
• 2checkout’s “all-in-one payment gateway and merchant account” accepts payments in 200-plus markets for 2.4-3.9 per cent, plus a Dh1.2-Dh1.8 currency conversion charge. The US provider processes online shop and mobile transactions and has 17,000-plus active digital commerce users.
• PayPal is probably the best-known online goods payment method - usually used for eBay purchases - but can be used to receive funds, providing everyone’s signed up. Costs from 2.9 per cent plus Dh1.2 per transaction.
