Umm Al Quwain Medical District and police from Dubai and UAQ held a discussion on the harmful effects of the misuse of the painkiller Tramadol.

Taking place at the UAQ’s Cultural Centre, the event fell under an emirate-wide initiative called No to Tramadol. The main targets of the awareness campaign are children, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.

Sunday’s seminar included speeches by the deputy director of UAQ’s medical district, Sheikha Fatima bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, read out on her behalf by Mohammed Al Kharji, the director of Financial Resources.

Other speakers included Dr Insaf Othman, a GP from the medical district’s Primary Healthcare Department, who explained the side effects of Tramadol, which is a controlled drug.
