Fujairah fruit shop shut down after worker uses slicing machine to clean his nails

A fruit and vegetable shop in Fujairah has been shut down for flouting food hygiene rules.

Footage shared on social media showed a worker at the shop using a machine intended used for slicing vegetables and fruit to clean his nails.

Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, director of Fujairah Municipality, said inspection teams were dispatched to the shop to investigate.

“They closed the facility and took action against the worker,” he said.

Fujairah would not tolerate any offences relating to food safety, said Mr Al Afkham.

He urged members of the public to report anyone breaching food hygiene regulations.
