Abu Dhabi butcher shut down for selling unsafe meat

A butchery in Abu Dhabi has been closed down for selling meat deemed unfit for human consumption.

Inspectors from Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority closed the doors of Perspective Butchery (Branch 6), behind Madinat Zayed Shopping centre, after finding it broke health and safety regulations.

They said it sold frozen meat despite labelling it as fresh, and did not correctly dispose of offcuts.

Thamer Al Qasimi, spokesman for the authority, said the butcher would be allowed to reopen after meeting food safety standards.

Mr Al Qasimi said the authority often carried out surprise inspections to ensure all shops complied with health and safety requirements.
