ABU DHABI // Dh544 million worth of projects to build new roads, schools and improve infrastructure around Abu Dhabi has been approved by the Executive Committee at the Executive Council.
Contracts worth more than Dh108 million to develop Mohammed bin Zayed City were given the go ahead. They include the construction of 7.7 kilometres of roads, water networks, a wastewater system, electricity and communication lines, irrigation systems, rain water drainage systems, and road lighting.
The Committee, headed by Saeed Eid Al Ghafli, Chairman of the Executive Office, also green lighted contracts for roads and infrastructure projects in Al Nahda military residential zone, Bani Yas and Al Shawamekh, worth more than Dh102 million.
It further approved a project to complete the development of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Road from Al Falah intersection to Qasr Al Bahr intersection, the first package of which is worth Dh54.577 million.
This aims to build a 3.5km road, a bridge and other necessary infrastructure. It also seeks to make amendments to traffic and control systems for Sheikh Zayed tunnel, which will improve traffic in the surrounding area.
A tender worth Dh36 million was awarded for the manufacturing, installation and maintenance of signs in the Western Region, as part of the Unified Geonames and addressing system in Abu Dhabi.
This project is part of the “Abu Dhabi Plan”, which seeks to develop urban areas that meet the needs of communities and provide residents with a high quality of life.
Furthermore, the Committee approved the budget for the first phase of a project to develop the Ghuwaifat crossing, at the border with Saudi Arabia.
The Dh135.5 million project includes the restoration of roads for light vehicles and buses as well as waiting areas for trucks heading in and out of the country.
Also approved was the design and construction of a primary school and kindergarten on Delma Island, worth Dh106.7 million. The school will accommodate 758 students.

Founded in 1985 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory (CVRL) is a government diagnostic centre that provides testing and research facilities to the UAE and neighbouring countries.
One of its main goals is to provide permanent treatment solutions for veterinary related diseases.
The taxidermy centre was established 12 years ago and is headed by Dr Ulrich Wernery.

Credit Score explained
What is a credit score?
In the UAE your credit score is a number generated by the Al Etihad Credit Bureau (AECB), which represents your credit worthiness – in other words, your risk of defaulting on any debt repayments. In this country, the number is between 300 and 900. A low score indicates a higher risk of default, while a high score indicates you are a lower risk.
Why is it important?
Financial institutions will use it to decide whether or not you are a credit risk. Those with better scores may also receive preferential interest rates or terms on products such as loans, credit cards and mortgages.
How is it calculated?
The AECB collects information on your payment behaviour from banks as well as utilitiy and telecoms providers.
How can I improve my score?
By paying your bills on time and not missing any repayments, particularly your loan, credit card and mortgage payments. It is also wise to limit the number of credit card and loan applications you make and to reduce your outstanding balances.
How do I know if my score is low or high?
By checking it. Visit one of AECB’s Customer Happiness Centres with an original and valid Emirates ID, passport copy and valid email address. Liv. customers can also access the score directly from the banking app.
How much does it cost?
A credit report costs Dh100 while a report with the score included costs Dh150. Those only wanting the credit score pay Dh60. VAT is payable on top.
