Ahead of the Eid Al Adha holiday, the Ministry of Interior has reminded people to play it safe.

Maj Gen Jassim Al Marzouki, chief commander of Civil Defence, asked residents to adhere to safety standards both in public and at home, but especially so in the kitchen, taking care when using equipment that may cause fires.

Among the cautions the Maj asked people to take were to ensure electric and gas cooking stoves in homes are up to safety standards; to seek the help of professionals to regularly check and fix any malfunctions, and to prevent children from being alone in kitchens to keep them from coming in contact with any open flames or hot liquids.

People are also advised against using barbecues or grills indoors.

With regards to spending some of the long weekend outdoors, the Maj reminded people to follow any instructions posted in public areas, such as beaces or parks, and to safely secure their houses before leaving.

Maj Al Marzouki added that civil defence stations across the UAE have stepped up preparations for the holidays, in event of emergency.

Anyone who sees an accident should also contact Civil Defence immediately, and people should refrain from crowding around accidents or parking their vehicles in front of fire hydrants.
