A girl who fell from the 10th floor of a residential building in Ras Al Khaimah is out of hospital and recovering well.

Leen Farghali, almost two years old, fell from a window in her family’s flat and through the rear windshield of a car parked below in February.

She was rushed to Saqr Hospital, where she was treated for multiple fractures and severe head trauma in an intensive care unit, before being flown to Tawam Hospital in Al Ain for further care.

Doctors believe the fall through the vehicle’s glass broke her landing and may have saved her life.

Pictures of her connected to a mechanical ventilator while lying motionless on a hospital bed were shared online, causing shock among social media users who questioned the safety requirements for windows in high-rise flats.

Leen was discharged from Tawam Hospital on March 21.

On Monday, three months after her fall, a video shared on social media of Leen showed the toddler running around a building, happy and seemingly fully recovered.

It was was posted by Mundher Al Muzaki, an Emirati journalist, on his Instagram account.

In the video, Leen’s father, Mahmoud Farghali, thanks everyone who supported his family and says he is happy to announce that his daughter is recovering well.

“She is the daughter of the UAE,” said Mr Farghali.

“She has been reborn again here after recovering from the accident and I thank everyone who stood by us during the hard times.”

After the incident, RAK Civil Defence said the window the girl fell from, of the top-hinged awning type, did not meet the minimum safety requirements. It revealed plans to conduct safety checks on windows in high-rise residential buildings across the emirate.
