The marine environment and wildlife section at Dubai Municipality organised a seminar on the occasion of World Wetlands Day at the Falcon Centre for Cultural Sports in Nad Al Shiba on Wednesday.
The event aimed to raise community awareness on the importance and value of wetlands. It focused on ecosystems and biodiversity in wetlands for their role in mitigating climate change and adapting to its effects.
Aisha Al Muhairi, head of the section, said the municipality will celebrate World Wetlands Day yearly. It falls on February and marks the day the Ramsar Treaty on Wetlands was adopted on the shores of the Caspian Sea in 1971.
The event focused on the importance of wetlands for the future as the most productive environments in the world and the source of biological diversity through the provision of water, the main element needed by living things for survival..
