The Ministry of Environment and Water has issued a decree aimed at reducing the improper disposal of expired pesticides and empty pesticide containers.
The decision is in line with the ministry’s responsibility to control the import, registration and export of chemicals and toxic waste, and is aimed at minimising the adverse environmental impact of improper disposal of the empty containers, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language newspaper of The National.
According to decision No 714 of 2015, establishments should keep records of expired pesticides, empty pesticide containers and pesticides that have been prohibited or whose registration has been cancelled. The records should include their quantities, storage periods, labels and chemical safety checklists, and the names of the parties to which expired pesticides will be delivered.
The ministry said establishments should take necessary precautions in storing, collecting and transporting pesticides.
