ABU DHABI // Heavy fog in Abu Dhabi led to traffic accidents and congestion early on Tuesday morning.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said there was fog in Abu Dhabi city, Khalifa City and Liwa, Sweihan and Al Dhafra in the Western Region.
In the Western Region visibility dropped to 50 metres, while at Abu Dhabi International Airport it was at 100 metres, the centre said.
Abu Dhabi Police said an accident occurred at Sea Palace at 8.33am but no traffic delays were reported. At around 10am a major accident was reported on E11 Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road near Al Rahba towards Abu Dhabi. Police did not give further details.

Abu Dhabi traffic police put out a warning at 12.30am about the low visibility on roads and urged motorists to take extra caution.
Fog continued until around 8.20am causing congestion and delays near Al Maqta Bridge and on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The duty forecaster at the Dubai meteorology department said visibility was good in Dubai and no fog was reported.
A minor accident on Sheikh Zayed Road near Jumeirah Lake Tower (JLT) was reported.
The city had its usual morning office hour rush on Al Khail Road of Dubai and onto Meydan Road towards Sheikh Zayed Road, and Umm Sequim. Dubai traffic police urged motorists to drive carefully.
On Monday night, Dubai police said on its Twitter handle that 88 traffic accidents were reported in the emirate in four hours because of heavy fog that morning.
The General Directorate of Traffic at Dubai Police also cautioned motorists to be cautious when driving in foggy conditions.
Brigadier Omar Al Shamsi, acting director of operations, said: “Motorists should always keep a safe distance between cars and adjust their speed to the weather conditions.”
He advised motorists to plan extra time for their journeys and check their planned route. It was also advisable to wait for the fog to clear until visibility improves, he said.
The centre warned motorists that the fog may return on Wednesday as humidity is expected to rise above 90 per cent.

How it works
Each player begins with one of the great empires of history, from Julius Caesar's Rome to Ramses of Egypt, spread over Europe and the Middle East.
Round by round, the player expands their empire. The more land they have, the more money they can take from their coffers for each go.
As unruled land and soldiers are acquired, players must feed them. When a player comes up against land held by another army, they can choose to battle for supremacy.
A dice-based battle system is used and players can get the edge on their enemy with by deploying a renowned hero on the battlefield.
Players that lose battles and land will find their coffers dwindle and troops go hungry. The end goal? Global domination of course.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood
Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.

What the law says
Micro-retirement is not a recognised concept or employment status under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 on the Regulation of Labour Relations (as amended) (UAE Labour Law). As such, it reflects a voluntary work-life balance practice, rather than a recognised legal employment category, according to Dilini Loku, senior associate for law firm Gateley Middle East.
“Some companies may offer formal sabbatical policies or career break programmes; however, beyond such arrangements, there is no automatic right or statutory entitlement to extended breaks,” she explains.
“Any leave taken beyond statutory entitlements, such as annual leave, is typically regarded as unpaid leave in accordance with Article 33 of the UAE Labour Law. While employees may legally take unpaid leave, such requests are subject to the employer’s discretion and require approval.”
If an employee resigns to pursue micro-retirement, the employment contract is terminated, and the employer is under no legal obligation to rehire the employee in the future unless specific contractual agreements are in place (such as return-to-work arrangements), which are generally uncommon, Ms Loku adds.
