DUBAI // Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is building a Dh98 million green vehicle workshop in Dubai.
The workshop uses the latest water and electricity conservation technologies and will house Dewa’s fleet of 3,330 types of vehicles as well as drilling equipment, state news agency Wam said.
The workshop, which measures 280,761 square feet, is expected to be completed by the end of March and includes an accident repair workshop, paint shop, washing area, management office and spare parts stores.
The workshop would be the largest of its kind in the region, according to Dewa. It meets the internationally recognised LEED criteria for environmentally friendly design.
The workshop is an addition to Dewa’s Sustainable Building in Al Quoz, which is the first sustainable Government building in the UAE and the largest in the world that has a platinum rating for green buildings, said Saeed Al Tayer, Dewa chief executive.
“This important project is part of DEWA’s operational plan and supports the future increase of its fleet of vehicles,” he said.
The workshop is part of the authority’s environmental protection strategy and supports its commitment to the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, Mr Al Tayer said.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, launched the initiative to establish the emirate as a global hub for trade, finance, tourism and green economy.
“DEWA has followed the highest sustainability standards in construction, selection of material and operations of the workshop,” Mr Al Tayer said. “This supports our strategy to achieve the sustainable development of Dubai and achieve a better future for generations to come.”
