DUBAI // A giant rubber duck will float down Dubai Creek as part of the National Day celebrations.

The 18-metre tall inflatable has already toured Amsterdam, Lommel, Osaka, Sydney Harbour, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong and Pittsburgh, where it attracted more than a million spectators.

The duck’s visit will highlight the importance of water conservation as well as help celebrate National Day and the Expo 2020 bid.

The inflatable is being brought to the UAE by GeoWash, an environmentally friendly mobile car wash.

The company’s chief executive in the UAE, Abdullah Al Shehi, will address the public when the duck arrives in the Creek on Sunday.

The UAE has almost no renewable water resources but one of the highest per-capita consumption rates in the world.

According to the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, each resident uses about 550 litres of water a day compared with 85 in Jordan and 485 and 425 in the US and Canada, respectively.
