SHARJAH // A leak at a natural gas distribution centre in Sharjah was contained on Saturday evening.

Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) fixed the leak at the centre near the Hilton hotel in Al Majaz.

Upon the discovery of the leak, emergency crews from the authority, police and civil defence were sent to the centre. The authority’s teams fixed the leak without any effect to the gas supply to residents, or posing any immediate danger, a spokesman for Sewa said.

“Our teams lowered the gas pressure at the centre in order to fix the problem. Meanwhile gas distribution from another centre was rerouted to Al Majaz area so that residents don’t have any service disruption,” he said.

Sewa Director Dr Rashid Al Leem said the leak was due to a technical fault at the station.
