DUBAI // An upcoming energy and water conservation workshop is being organised to explain efficiency to non specialists.

The June 10 event targets the business sector and aims to explain to companies how to measure their energy and water use, as well as identify opportunities to make savings.

Organised by Emirates Wildlife Society – World Wide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF), the event is described as useful for small and medium-sized companies that lack in-house engineering or facilities management staff.

“We will show, in an interactive way, that there are very easy steps that can be taken to achieve savings,” said Tamara Withers of the EWS-WWF.

Participants will be taught how to calculate the energy and water consumption of their offices and how to evaluate the potential of water and energy retrofits for maximum savings. An important step in the training will be teaching participants how to persuade management to allocate the necessary budget for efficiency retrofits. Communicating the benefits of the savings schemes with colleagues and external stakeholders will also be discussed.

“It is not just about making those savings, but also how to communicate them,” Ms Withers said.

Energy and water-efficiency programmes have environmental benefits and participants will be introduced to key concepts about climate change and how reducing the amount of heat-trapping gases humanity discharges into the atmosphere is essential for avoiding the worst effects of climate change.
